March OoCZ aka 15. Silence

I started a personal project called "Out of the Comfort Zone" in February, for which I would draw an image in a style or containing subjects I usually don't draw. The March theme was suggested by dA member Apofiss (sci-fi landscape, something mecha + female character).

I had originally intended it to be more graphic, instead it turned out much, much more painterly. Also, the earthy tones were a bit of a surprise. Perhaps I'll resort to listening to more Jpop when doing such pieces in the future :D
Sadly, as soon as learned, I have forgotten last month's lesson on colouring shiny details *cringes at the look of the mechanical tiger*

Finally, about what's going on here. In a not-so different world from ours, where all kinds and sizes of mechanical pets have become available, Gayde, one of my character, enjoys scavenging her home city for body parts and generally abandoned pets. So she has found this one in the trash (apparently somewhere near this epic valley-overlooking location, which is this kind of stupid lack of planning which I'm slowly starting to hate..) is pondering on how to get it work. In case of failure, she'll just set it up in some majestic pose and leave.

Watercolour, a bit of colour and graphite pencils on an inked sketch. Had some discussions along the way with the suggester about our different ideas regarding the possible colour scheme when the piece was still in progress. I still think that nothing was wrong with my idea but I might have exectuted it faultily.

All in all, I'm not satisfied, although I can't say that I absolutely hate the result.
Must work more, must work more.

P.S. About actually-sized close-up of Gayde.
